RFH Celebrates Charles Dickens
Join The Tower Players of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School for
“A Christmas Carol”
Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December 1st at 7:30 pm
Sunday, December 2nd at 1:00 pm.
In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens The Tower Players will present A
Christmas Carol based on the classic Dickens tale. Although Dickens lived and wrote in the Victorian
era, his masterpiece transcends his time, language and culture. The Tower Players invite you to be part
of the celebration and start the holidays with the time-honored story of redemption and kindness.
Britain launched the year long celebration of Dickens life on February 7th 2012 when members
of the royal family placed a wreath on his grave in the Poets Corner of Westminster Abbey, the resting
place of many literary dignitaries.
participating in “Dickens 2012” which includes a variety of events taking place throughout the entire
year with celebrations to commemorate this very special anniversary.
Although Dickens died in 1870 his novels and characters are more popular than ever. This is
the most certainly the case with A Christmas Carol written in 1843. Ebenezer Scrooge is literature’s
most notorious miser whose heart is “locked up tighter than a cash box.” Scrooge must endure the
visits by three spirits who remind him who he was and what he might yet become. He is given the
chance to open up his heart and learn the true meaning of the season: that it’s never too late to make a
new start. The famous tale of redemption for the most despised man in London will awaken your heart
and rekindle your spirit as well.
In the spirit of giving The Tower Players will be collecting hats, mittens, gloves, scarves and
personal care items in support of Holiday Express throughout November and at each performance.
Items may be dropped off at the main office or in the lobby during performances.
