Rumson — Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School has announced that it will form a crew team. The program, Rumson-Fair Haven High School Rowing, will be open to all RFH students and will be underway in time for the Spring 2014 season.

A kick-off meeting for students and parents will be held in the RFH auditorium on Monday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m.

The team will row out of Victory Park in Rumson, New Jersey. Participating athletes will be coached by instructors chosen under the guidance of Chris Lanzalotto, RFH Director of Athletics and Student Activities.

“Rowing offers our students an outstanding opportunity to improve self-discipline while learning about teamwork,” said Lanzalotto. “I am very happy to have the program back at RFH, and I look forward to beginning the hiring process for our coaching staff.”

A Booster Club Board has been formed in support of the program, which received approval from the RFH Board of Education on November 12.

The Booster Club Board consists of President Mark Wallhauser along with Cushing Condon, Ed Cushing, Scott Eskwitt, Jim Hallisey, and Paul Hughes.

“Crew is a lifetime sport that demands hard work, dedication, and teamwork and takes full advantage of the natural resources surrounding the peninsula we are fortunate enough to call ‘home’” said Wallhauser. “It distinguishes students during the college application process and teaches them that their achievements in life are limited only by their drive to achieve them.”

Rumson-Fair Haven Rowing will consist of boys’ and girls’ Junior Varsity and Varsity teams.

“It is truly an honor to work with RFH and with the boroughs of Rumson and Fair Haven in support of the Rumson-Fair Haven Rowing team,” said Wallhauser.
