RFH Dance Team Receives Highest Honors from
Universal Dance Association; Three Members Earn “All American” Title
Rumson — Members of the Dance Team at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School earned highest honors from their instructors at a dance camp held at RFH this summer. Three of the Dance Team members were also singled out for the “All American” title and the opportunity to participate in an upcoming performance in London, England.
Instructors from Universal Dance Association (UDA) worked with the RFH dancers from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m on August 5, 6, and 7, teaching them eight new dances and two new sideline routines. With assistance from the UDA instructors, the RFH Dance Team members achieved their goal of enhancing team chemistry and fine-tuning their dance skills in anticipation of upcoming events — including their first performance of the school year, at the RFH home football game scheduled for September 20th at 7 p.m. when they will host St. John-Vianney High School.
Each of the RFH dancers achieved a blue ribbon, the highest honor, after being judged on individual routines by the UDA instructors. The unanimous receipt of blue ribbons enabled the RFH Dance Team to receive a “Superior” trophy. Senior Arianna Campbell also received the UDA “Spirit” award, which is given to the team member who demonstrates exceptional leadership and school spirit.
The coveted UDA “All American” award was given to three RFH Dance Team members based on their individual routines. Juniors Stefani Sciametta and Abbey Weis and senior Emily DelNegro received this title, which also provides them with the opportunity to join in a special dance performance on New Year’s Eve 2014 in London.
“All American” designations are made yearly to junior and senior girls at UDA camps across the U.S., and only 10 percent of all participants are selected for this honor.
2013-14 RFH Dance Team members who participated in the Dance Camp are seniors Arianna Campbell, Jillian Hunt, and Emily DelNegro, juniors Stefani Sciametta and Abbey Weis, sophomores Heather Culver and Deanna Heller, and freshmen Saige Bess, Katie Pierson, Jane Russo, Paige Venancio, and Emily Weis.
Universal Dance Association is a nationally-recognized program dedicated to helping dance teams better enhance school spirit. Dance Camps and dance competitions are among the activities sponsored and offered by UDA.
