Rumson — The Character Education Club at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School

greeted the start of spring with a goal in mind.

Aware that many children residing in the nearby town of Long Branch were lacking

items necessary for schoolwork, they organized the first School Supplies Drive held at

RFH. The students hoped to outfit at least eighteen children with backpacks and other

“I used to work in Long Branch, and I know for a fact that a large number of kids had to

struggle just to get by day-to-day,” said Club Co-Advisor and RFH Freshman Advisor

Jason Lippart.

Thanks to the generosity of the RFH community, the inaugural School Supplies Drive is

on track for meeting and most likely exceeding its goal. Better yet, it has produced an

added benefit.

Since many donors expressed an interest in making cash contributions in addition to

providing supplies, the Character Education Club has begun a scholarship fund to

benefit grammar school and high school students residing in Long Branch.

Mr. Lippart and Character Education Club Co-Advisor Jamie Juliano of the RFH Child

Study Team expressed gratitude for the enthusiasm of the students and support from

the community. “The RFH parents and students and the local community have all been

very generous, and they need to know that this will really make a difference in the lives

of the students in Long Branch,” said Mr. Lippart.

The school supplies drive will end on May 30, and donations are being accepted in the

RFH Guidance Office and the RFH Child Study Team Office. Backpacks, binders, multi-subject notebooks, folders, paper, pencils, pens, highlighters, rulers, erasers, colored

pencils, markers, crayons, and other general school supplies are requested.

Contributions to the scholarship fund are being accepted until June 20. Donors

should make checks payable to Character Education Club and bring them to the RFH

Guidance Office or mail them to Jason Lippart/Guidance Department, Rumson-Fair

Haven Regional High School, 74 Ridge Road, Rumson, New Jersey 07760.
