    World Language Placement Exams

    Dear Parent/Guardian,

This year, the RFH World Language Placement Exam will be held in person on February 1, 2023, at 4:00 PM at RFH.  The placement exam is for any incoming Freshman (Class of 2027) who would like to take French II, French II Honors, Spanish II, or Spanish II Honors as a Freshman.  If your child is interested in taking the placement exam, please register them hereThe registration deadline is Wednesday, January 25th.  Additionally, please note the important information regarding the exam below:

    • The placement exam is for any incoming Freshman who would like to take French II, French II Honors, Spanish II, or Spanish II Honors as a Freshman.  If your child is planning to take French I, Spanish I, or Chinese I, they do NOT need to take the placement exam.  If there is any chance they may want to take level 2, we highly recommend they take the exam.

    • If your child is currently enrolled in the Chinese I program at RFH, and they plan to continue with Chinese next year, they do NOT need to take the exam.

    • The test will begin promptly at 4:00 PM and will last one hour.  Please plan to drop your child off at the front door of the school between 3:30 and 3:45 PM so they may find their testing room and get situated before 4:00.  Students that are allowed extra time through an IEP or a 504 plan at their current school should note this on the registration form and will be provided extra time on the placement exam.

    • The placement exam is designed to take one hour.  Please plan to pick your child up in front of RFH at 5:00 PM.

    • The placement exam will be used to provide data to place your child in the class that is most suitable for them in order to set them up for success throughout their course of study here at RFH.  We will also be looking at other data, including but not limited to their current and past academic performance in world language classes.

    • The placement exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions and a writing sample.  Please send your child to the test with a #2 pencil.

Please keep in mind that the purpose of this exam is to place your child in the most suitable class for their language level.  We aim to set them up for success.  The learning community at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School looks forward to welcoming your child or children to enjoy an exciting and memorable learning experience for their freshman year and beyond!

If you have any questions regarding the exam, please feel free to contact me.
