SURF TEAM

MEMBERSHIP: Open to any student-athlete interested in surfing, grades 9-12. Student must supply their own shortboard or longboard.

MEETINGS: The Fall season starts in mid-August and ends in early November. The Spring season starts in April and ends in June. Practices take place Monday-Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 PM at local surf spots anywhere from Sandy Hook to Loch Arbour. Competitions against local high schools occur after school or on weekends, but are typically held on Fridays at 3:00 PM.

The RFH Surf Team practices in the Fall and Spring. Practices are held after school from 3:30-5:30 PM. The location of all surf team events can be anywhere between Sandy Hook and Spring Lake. Students are required to get themselves to and from practice. Transportation is not provided. Contests may be after school or on the weekends, but typically take place on Friday afternoons. The NSSA High School Regional Championships are held in October or early November. RFH enters A and B teams into this competition, but the number of teams can vary from year to year. Each team is made up of 6 male short boarders, 2 female shortboarders, and 1 longboarder. This structure is determined by the NSSA, not the school or coaching staff. Students must have their own equipment. Students must have a recent physical and complete a swim test. Tryouts for the surf team take place in August. The Surf Team is structured as a club, but student-athletes are eligible for varsity letters. The student fee in 2018 was $375. This fee covers the cost of coaches, lifeguards, venue costs, judges, contest fees, and the NSSA membership. If you are interested in joining or have any questions, please email rfhsurfteam@gmail.com.
