MATH HONOR SOCIETY
MEMBERSHIP: Open to 11th through 12th grade students with a minimum GPA of 3.67 and 90 or above in all regular math courses and 85 or above in all honors and AP math courses.

The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Chapter will strive to adhere and enhance the defined objectives of the Math National Honor Society (Mu Alpha Theta):
- Inspire a keen interest in mathematics
- Develop strong knowledge of the subject
- Communicate with the mathematics community
- Encourage students to participate in math-based learning opportunities
Once students have met the criteria to apply, acceptance to Math National Honor Society will be determined via the application process. See Mrs. DeMeter with any questions.
National Mathematics Honor Society
By Laws of the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Chapter of the Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society
This application is open to all Juniors and Seniors who have excelled in their completion of the core course requirements in mathematics at RFH. Please direct all questions directly to the advisor of the RFH Chapter of the Mu Alpha Theta National Mathematics Honor Society, Mrs. DeMeter (kdemeter@rumsonfairhaven.org).
Requirements for membership application:

Students must maintain a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.67.

Students must have earned a minimum unweighted average of 90% (A-) across all regular/Level I mathematics courses or an 85% (B) average across Honors or AP mathematics courses in the years prior to application (Courses considered in this calculation are any that fall under the mathematics section of the RFH Course Catalog).

Students must have completed at least two years of college preparatory mathematics courses and have completed or are enrolled in a third year of college preparatory mathematics.

Students must complete the application (Due October 11th at 2:40pm – NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED)

Students must receive a teacher recommendation from a current or past mathematics teacher of their choice. Students will indicate on the application which teacher will complete the Teacher Recommendation Form.

Approval and induction into the RFH chapter of the National Mathematics Honor Society will be based on a review of these criteria.

Approval and induction will take place in the winter.

Students must do one of the following to maintain their membership:

Join and actively participate in a mathematics organization at RFH:

Math League
-
Chess Club
-
STEM club
-

Participate in at least two club-sponsored activities during the school year.

Students must attend 75% of all MNHS meetings.

A student may be dismissed if he/she violates the standards, obligations,
or ideals of the Mathematics Honor Society.
If you meet the above requirements and are interested in applying for the National Mathematics Honor Society, please make a copy and submit the application form to Mrs. DeMeter by Friday, October 11th.
